I just received the report for my one-year PET scan: There is no sign of cancer. This is a great report and a direct answer to prayer. I have now graduated from getting scanned every three months to every six months.
We decided to bring our family back out to Houston — they have been requesting this! — and visit NASA the day before my scan. One of my goals when I was in isolation was to be healthy enough to explore the Space Center with my family. While touring the Saturn V rocket, a random man stopped us and said that we looked familiar. We introduced ourselves, and he explained that he is a pastor in Austin, Texas, and had prayed for me during my treatments.
It is amazing to hear stories like this and know that God has done a remarkable work. I am continually grateful for each new week of life. So many of you have prayed for me and my family. Thank you. I am feeling better than I have felt in two years.
Life really is a fragile and precious gift. For those of you who have gotten serious scans, you know the unpleasant and weighty experience. It has a clarifying effect that reminds you of what is important. The important things in life are the eternal ones — the Godward ones.
One year out from my transplant, I would be remiss if I did not gently prompt you to reflect on your own life and its trajectory. What are you spending your days on? Are you laboring for what is eternal or what is temporary? Are you investing in your family? In a local church? Reading the Scripture? Coming to the Lord in prayer?
The Lord is near to us, and we can call upon him at any time. Thank you again for interceding for me and my family in our trials. We praise the Lord.
Psalm 17:6
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me; hear my words.
Psalm 62:8
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Psalm 66:19–20
But truly God has listened;
he has attended to the voice of my prayer.
Blessed be God,
because he has not rejected my prayer
or removed his steadfast love from me!
